Anderson, S.C. — Looking for their first win of the 2010 campaign, the Young Harris College Mountain Lions traveled to 100 miles east to South Carolina to take on Anderson University. While defense has not been a weakness for the Mountain Lions to this point in the season, they were blanked 6-0 by a strong Trojan attack.
Anderson (3-2-1) tallied the first point seven minutes into the contest, with Ryan Messick scoring unassisted just under the crossbar. Fellow Trojan Lasse Sohrweide netted two more points, one on an assist from Zach Denson at the 15 minute mark and another at the 28th minute that caromed off of YHC goaltender Wezly Barnard and crossed the goal line. The Trojans added two more goals before half, taking a 5-0 lead into the locker room. Anderson would score one more goal at the 60th minute as Denson was fed by Sohrweide, and the Trojans took the 6-0 victory against YHC (0-3-3).
The Mountain Lion’s offensive woes continued in this contest as they were outshot 17-6. For the season, YHC has taken 115 shots on net, but only two have found the back of the net. YHC opponents have been much more efficient, scoring 11 times on 73 shots. Both goaltenders – Barnard and Trojan Lukas Hesse – each had three saves in the contest.
The Mountain Lions travel 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22 to Marietta, Ga., to take on Southern Polytechnic State University.
